Kona Low Storms Disaster Housing Assistance

Below are several housing options for Kona Low disaster relief. If you were affected by the Kona Low storms, HIEMA recommends requesting a Disaster Case Manager to help you navigate these options. Call 2-1-1 or email [email protected] to request a Disaster Case Manager.


State of Hawaiʻi Temporary Sheltering

The State of Hawaiʻi is offering non-congregate sheltering options for individuals and households that were displaced by the Kona Low storms but are ineligible for FEMA assistance.

This program is open to people who meet the following conditions:

  • You were displaced from your primary residence as a result of the Kona Low storms
  • You are ineligible for FEMA assistance
  • You are in need of immediate shelter
  • You can provide documentation showing you are a renter or homeowner

In order to be approved for this program, you must:

  • Participate in a Disaster Case Manager program (call 2-1-1 or email [email protected])
  • Have a FEMA registration ID number

FEMA Housing Assistance

Residents of Honolulu, Maui and Hawaiʻi counties who were displaced by the Kona Low disaster may qualify for housing assistance through FEMA.

FEMA can help qualified disaster victims with housing by providing money for:

  • Rent so you can lease housing if you are displaced because of the disaster
  • Lodging expense reimbursement for emergency lodging like hotel or motel stays due to the disaster
  • Home repair or replacement after disaster damage
  • Home accessibility needs for disabled disaster victims
  • Private road, bridge and dock repair for home access damaged by the disaster
  • Home mitigation to repair or rebuild stronger, more durable homes

Even if you have insurance, you may qualify for some forms of FEMA assistance.
