Go to high ground. If trapped, go to highest floor/roof.

LEAVE NOW or go to high ground or the highest floor of your home if you cannot evacuate.

DO NOT walk or drive through moving water or on flooded roadways

Makaha-Nānākuli: Pick-up along Farrington Hwy between Mākaha Beach Park and Nānākuli Beach Park; drop-off at Nānākuli High & Intermediate shelter.

North Shore (Route 521 – Waialua–Haleʻiwa): Flag down anywhere; service to Weed Circle, then transfer to Route 52 to Wahiawā Transit Center.

Inform the driver you are evacuating.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

Flash Flood Warning for… The island of Oahu in Honolulu County * Until 745 PM HST.

At 446 PM HST, radar indicated heavy rain slowly moving eastward and should clear Oahu in the next hour or two. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour, mainly over eastern portions of Oahu. Emergency management reported several road closures in northern and windward Oahu.

  • HAZARD: Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.
  • SOURCE: Radar.
  • IMPACT: Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road closures possible in some areas.   • WHERE: Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe, and the Big Island.
  • WHEN: Through late tonight.
  • IMPACTS: Significant flooding may occur due to the overflow of streams and drainages. Roads in several areas may be closed, along with property damage in urban or low lying spots due to runoff. Landslides may also occur in areas with steep terrain.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Low pressure northwest of the islands will continue to draw deep tropical moisture northward across the state, bringing the potential for heavy rain capable of producing flash flooding. The focus will gradually shift eastward tonight into Saturday morning as the axis of moisture progresses down the island chain and drier air fills in behind.
  • PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR ALL HAWAIIAN ISLANDS

  • WHAT: Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.
  • WHERE: The island of Kauai in Kauai County, The island of Niihau in Kauai County, Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe, and the Big Island.
  • WHEN: Through this afternoon.
  • IMPACTS: Significant flooding may occur due to excessive rainfall and overflow of streams and drainages. Roads in several areas may be closed, along with property damage in urban or low lying spots due to runoff. Landslides may also occur in areas with steep terrain.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Low pressure northwest of the islands will draw deep tropical moisture northward across the state, bringing the potential for heavy rain and thunderstorms capable of producing flash flooding.
  • PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

FLOOD WATCH FOR ALL ISLANDS IN THE STATE OF HAWAII

  • WHAT: Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.
  • WHERE: Kauai, Niihau, Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe, and the Big Island.
  • WHEN: From Wednesday morning through Friday afternoon.
  • IMPACTS: Significant flooding may occur due to excessive rainfall and overflow of streams and drainages. Roads in several areas may be closed, along with property damage in urban or low lying spots due to runoff. Landslides may also occur in areas with steep terrain.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS: A deep layered trough will develop west of the islands and draw abundant moisture northward as it strengthens on Tuesday. Instability and upward forcing will enhance the available moisture and bring the potential for heavy rain and thunderstorms leading to flash flooding across all islands in the state of Hawaii

Shelters at Mayor Hannibal Tavares Community Center in Pukalani and at Lahaina Civic Center are slated to close at noon today, 4/10, after being unoccupied. A shelter at Hāna High School Cafeteria was closed at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, and a shelter at Velma McWayne Santos Community Center in Wailuku was closed at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Remaining shelter locations are the following:

  • SOUTH MAUI: South Maui Community Park Gym, 1501 Līloa Drive, Kīhei
  • EAST MAUI: Helene Hall, 174 Keawa Place, Hāna
  • MOLOKAʻI: Molokaʻi shelter support is available as needed; call (808) 280-8968

Maui Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), other County of Maui departments and the American Red Cross started proactively opening shelters on 4/8, ahead of severe weather. Shelters offer cots (select locations), food and water; those with dietary needs should supply their own food. Bring bedding, essential supplies and medications. Pets are allowed only if crated, caged or leashed. Shelter duration depends on weather conditions.
