Major General Roy Macaraeg
Maj. Gen. Roy Macaraeg enlisted as a traditional Guardsman in the Hawaii Army National Guard (ARNG) in 1990 as a Private (E1) assigned to 1st Battalion, 487th Field Artillery, 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. He commissioned as a Field Artillery Officer in 1996 through the Officer Candidate School as the distinguished honor graduate. In 1999 he started his AGR career at the National Guard Bureau (NGB) as an Operational Research Systems Analyst (ORSA Functional Area 49) and as a Comptroller (Functional Area 36). He served in various positions of increasing responsibilities at all levels in the Hawaii ARNG, ARNG Directorate, NGB and HQDA. He served in the Manning PEG (DAPE-PRR) as an ORSA Analyst, Training PEG (ASA M&RA (TRM)) as the TT-PEG CoExecutive. He also served as the ARNG Comptroller and ARNG Deputy G-8 in NGB.
As a General Officer, he served as the ARNG G-4, ARNG G-9 and the ARNG G-1 for ARNG serving the 54 States and Territories. He commanded at multiple levels. He commanded the 487th Field Artillery and subsequently the 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.
His operational deployments include operation Iraqi Freedom III as a Battery and Camp Commander, and operation Joint Guardian as the Battle Group Commander for the NATO Kosovo Forces, Multi-National Battle Group – East as the Senior U.S. Military Commander at Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo.
He is a graduate of the National War College, NDU (2013). He currently serves as the Senior Military Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Manpower and Reserve Affairs) and the Director of Training, Readiness, and Mobilization.
Macaraeg is married to his high school sweetheart, Bene and they have a beautiful 12-year-old daughter, Chloe Anne.
