Retiree News

On November 4, 1946, the four original units of the Hawai‘i Air National Guard received Federal recognition.  These units were: the 199^th Fighter Squadron, 199^th Utility Flight, Detachment C, 199^th Air Service Group, and the 199^th Weather Station.  We recognize this date as birthday of the Hawai‘i Air National Guard.

The 199th Fighter Squadron flew F-47 Thunderbolts, shown in the photograph above, from July 1947 through 1954.  “Jugs”, as they were known, made up the bulk of the early Air National Guard aircraft inventory nationwide.
