Senator Brian Schatz issued a press release announcing that defense spending in Hawaii would increase by more than $200 million. Included in this appropriation is $44 million for an F-22 fighter alert facility at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.

The existing facility was built in the late 1950s with several upgrades through the years.  The photograph shows the alert facility with three F-86H Sabres parked in the open bays.
