TAPS: Ernest Joseph Pauline

Ernest “The Sweetbread Man” Joseph Pauline Sr., 87, of Hilo died Feb. 17 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Honolulu, he owned the former Pauline’s Bakery in Hilo and was a member of the Ancient Order of Foresters Court Mauna Kea #8854, Portuguese Culture Club of Hilo and the former Native Sons and Daughters of Hawaii, and Hawaii Army National Guard veteran.

Visitation 9-9:45 a.m. Tuesday (Mar. 4) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel.

Prayer service at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park, Lehua Section.

Aloha attire. 

Survived by wife, LaVerne Q. Pauline of Hilo; children, Lynn Oylear-Shields of Oregon, Lisa (John) Spizzano of Hilo, Ernest (Michelle) Pauline Jr. of Tennessee and Elroy Pauline of Hilo; siblings, John (Emily) Pauline of Hilo, Rose (Junior Ah Hee) Rice of Hilo and Frances (Jim) Marcotte of Kansas; sister-in-law, Mollie Cohen of Tennessee; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren; cousins, nieces and nephews.
