Revival of Retiree News
Posted on Sep 4, 2024 in Webmaster CommentsAloha and welcome to the revival of Retiree News!
Maj. Gen. Kenneth Hara asked his Public Affairs Office to revive Retiree News because of the value it had. Retiree News was a connection between the past and current times. Veterans and retirees who served in the Hawaii National Guard built the legacy that we enjoy today. All of the federal missions, state activations, Guard personalities, achievements, and so much more were captured and shared in Retiree News.
RetireeNews began in 2006 by Lt Col (Ret.) Galen Yoshimoto as an email to Hawaii Air National Guard retirees who needed information about an upcoming organizational event. The email included comments about several HIANG retirees. It received positive feedback and requests for more emails with similar information. The email format evolved to a newsletter and along the way, Hawaii Army National Guard retirees became readers too. From there it further evolved to the website version in 2013 and in 2022 the website surpassed 1.75 million views.
Now in 2024, Retiree News the website version is being revived. Many of the former posts by Galen were preserved on this new iteration on our State of Hawaii, Department of Defense website. Some of the dated posts about news, health issues, outside organizations, and unrelated HIDOD events that are completed have been deleted. Because we are a state government site, we cannot appear to endorse anything specific or appear biased in any way.
The new Retiree News posts will be published when they become available. There may be some busy weeks and some slow, but we will share more HING history, upcoming events, recent promotions / retirements / awards, Veteran resources, news and more.
We are open to suggestions and want interaction with our audience, please contact us at [email protected].
Sincerely,
The new Retiree News webmasters at HIDOD Public Affairs Office
