Posted on May 11, 2018 in 1980's, Check Six

This undated photograph shows a F-4C Phantom II flying over Oahu. The 199th Fighter Squadron flew Phantoms for 11 years – 1976-1987. Given this time frame, this photograph was taken at least 31 years ago.

With the transition from F-102 Delta Daggers, the 154th Composite Group moved from an air defense unit to an organization that could deploy worldwide. It was a period of expanding mission requirements and deployments. Six of the Wing’s Air Force Outstanding Unit Awards were garnered during the Phantom period.
