Aloha Airlines was a Hawaiian airline headquartered in Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii, operating from a hub at Honolulu International Airport. Operations began on July 26, 1946, and ceased on March 31, 2008.
A sad day for all 1900 of Aloha’s employees. Many Hawaii National Guard members – including many Air Guard pilots – lost their jobs and retirements due to the closure.
Darryll Wong, the future Adjutant General, was Aloha’s Chief Pilot and was asked to take the last flight after he arrived at Honolulu Airport to join his co-workers. In the interview in the Hawaii News Now video, you will notice he is wearing an aloha shirt, not his Aloha Airlines uniform.
If the other pilot interviewed looks a little familiar, Trisha Kobashigawa was a news reported for KITV before starting at Aloha Airlines. She was Aloha’s newest pilot. Trisha now flies for Hawaiian Air.
