Taps: Major General Eugene Imai

Major General Eugene Imai, United States Army Retired, 73, died February 3, 2018 at Arcadia Retirement Home.

He was commissioned via Reserve Officer Training Corps at University of Hawai‘i, Mānoa. After a tour in Vietnam, he joined United States Army Reserve 1970. After several command and staff positions, he became the Chief of Staff, Headquarter IX Corps in 1988.

The general transferred to the Hawaii Army National Guard in February 1991 to become the Chief Plans Officer, Headquarters, State Area Command (STARC). From April 1991 through June 1996, he served as the Deputy Adjutant General and the Deputy Commander, State Area Command.

In July 1996, he was assigned as the Deputy Commanding Officer (Reserve Command), United States Army Pacific. He retired on December 31, 1999.

As a civilian, he retired as the Senior Vice President for Administration at University of Hawai‘i, Mānoa.

Memorial service will be at the Arcadia, 1434 Punahou Street, on Friday, March 23, 2018. Services will begin at 0930, followed by burial at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl) at 1300.
