Many Hawaii Air National Guard retirees attend the Non-Commissioned Officer Academy (NCOA) at McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base in Louisville, Tennessee. (It was Knoxville, Tennessee until a newly created Lousiville County separated from Alcoa County.)
CMSgt Art Hafner was one of the original staff at the NCOA when it opened. The Chief later became the 9th Commandant of the I.G. Brown Training and Education Center.
Col Edmund C. Morrisey served as the commandant of the first Non-Commissioned Officer Academy class. He later became the first commander of the I.G. Brown Training and Education Center (TEC).
This photograph was taken on May 23, 2013. Both retirees continue to attend graduation ceremonies, “sitting in the back.”
Since the first class in 1968, the TEC’s Paul H. Lankford Enlisted Professional Military Education Center has since graduated nearly 40,000 NCO academy students as well as more than 20,000 Airman leadership school students. More than 14,600 officers earned their commissions on the campus prior to the 2009 relocation of the Academy of Military Science to Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. Thousands of others attended professional and continuing education courses on the campus located in Louisville, Tennessee.
