Check Six: Club Jetty

During the 1960s and the early 1970s, the then 154th Fighter Group deployed to Barking Sands on Kauai for summer camp. Most of the flying was during daylight hours with the 199th Fighter Squadron flying F-102A Delta Daggers.

Off duty activities included fishing off the restricted runway beach (fishing where no one else can fish), games of chance, and just relaxing. Others traveled to Lihue for dinner, followed by a drink (or more) at Club Jetty in Nāwiliwili. Evenings usually ended with a stop at Hamura Saimin.

Then there was the time a few stopped by the old Kauai Surf (after a few drinks at Club Jetty) and “borrowed” one of the tiki.  But that’s a story for another post.

In a post on his Images of Old Hawaii website, Peter Young provides some background and memories of Club Jetty.
