Manny Carlos

Retiring soon is MAJ Manny Carlos.  He starts his terminal leave at the end of the month. There was a small retirement luncheon (at his request) at the Willows Restaurant last Friday. In attendance were his family, his co-workers and several others from outside agencies and commands. He received Meritorious Service Medal and several gifts. Then there was the story about the macadamia nut plantation Manny owns in the Philippines…

Manny served in the active Air Force before enlisting in the Hawai‘i Air National Guard. His commissioning soon followed. His first assignment was with the 292d Combat Communications Squadron on Maui before accepting a fulltime position with the then 169th Aircraft Control & Warning Squadron.

In 2009, he transferred to the Hawai‘i Army National Guard. He headed the State Partnership Program and worked closely with counterparts in many Asia Pacific nations.

Happy Trails to Manny!

Governor David Y. Ige has extended Ronald Han as the Director of the Office of Veterans Affairs. His current tenure now extends until Governor Ige’s current term ends on December 2, 2018.

Governor Neil Abercrombie initially appointed Ron during the first year of his administration. Since then, Ron has done an exceptional job with the veterans and veterans’ programs.

Ron is working diligently on the committees for three major projects right now.  The first is the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War. The second is the Gulf War Memorial. The last is the most complex and long term, the design and building of a veterans home on Oahu.  This home will be like the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo.

Ron will continue to serve Hawai‘i’s veterans.
