Check Six – April 1995: 154th Support Group Training Bulletin

The following items were in the “In My Opinion” column in the April 1995 issue of the 154th Support Group Training Bulletin. Ranks and unit designations are as they were in 1995. 

The April column recognized two newly promoted colonels in the Hawaii Air National Guard.

  • + Myron Dobashi, the Deputy Commander of the 201st Combat Communications Group, who pinned on his “eagles “ during the March UTA. Colonel Dobashi recently came to the 201st after commanding the 150th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron and the 154th Air Control Squadron on Kauai.
  • + Melvin Honda, assigned to Headquarters, Hawaii Air National Guard. He served as a C-130 pilot at the 154th Wing. He moved to the Headquarters to become the chief planner for the HIANG Strategic Plan. Brig Gen David Rodrigues, Commander, Hawaii Air National Guard, pinned Colonel Honda.
  • The column recognized the HIANG’s five new Chief Master Sergeants
  • + Reginald Chun, 154th Maintenance Squadron. Chief Chun was the NCOIC of the Missile shop, when it was out by the beach.
  • + Alfred DeRego, 203d Air Refueling Squadron. Chief DeRego was long time technician and served with the Enlisted Association.
  • + Harrison Iga, 154th Logistics Squadron. Chief Iga, another long time technician, was the hub of the supply operation.
  • + Rex Koga, 203d Air Refueling Squadron. Chief Koga served in the avionics branch
  • + Ken Sonan, 154th Operations Group. Chief Sonan worked comm-electronics issues for the radar units for many years.

SMSgt Deb Brownhill, 154th Civil Engineer Squadron, transferred to the Human Resources Management Office (HRMO). She will serve in the training section. On UTA weekends, Deb will work at HQ HIANG.

TSgt Kenneth Takushi of the 154 Mission Support Flight retired after 28 years of service.

TSgt Bridget Komine, 154 Mission Support Flight, completed the ANG NCO Academy at McGhee Tyson’s Professional Military Education Center.
