In his MidWeek column, columnist Bob Jones provides a great history of military C-rations and the infamous P-38 can opener. For younger military members and retirees, C-rations were the predecessor to long-range-reconnaissance eats and Meals Ready to Eat (MREs). Like he reports in the article, some of the C-rations were good, but most were just plain bad.

For older retirees, everyone remembers their experiences with C-rations.  But most memories center on the P-38 can opener, a great tool. There are probably a few people out there who still have them on your key chains. Read Bob’s article http://ow.ly/r2ikm.
