World War II (1940-1946)
The 298th and 299th Infantry regiments were activated for World War II from Oct. 15, 1940, to Jan. 22, 1946. Staying in Hawaii till the 299th was inactivated in 1942, with all personnel and equipment transferred to the 298th, the reorganized regiment went into combat in the South Pacific from 1943 to 1944. During the mobilization, 206 soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.
