Company C, 1st Battalion, 183rd Aviation Regiment

The Blackhawk unit is headquartered at Hilo. Its mission is to deploy worldwide to provide air assault and air movement operations throughout all modes of flight (day, night, and night vision devices) ISO Unified Land Operations. One of the many highlights from FY19 included:

  • Providing flyover opportunities for officials to survey the lava eruptions that broke out on Hawai‘i Island. The eruptions spanned into two fiscal years.

Company C, 1st Battalion, 183rd Aviation Regiment

The Blackhawk unit is headquartered at Hilo. Its mission is to deploy worldwide to provide air assault and air movement operations throughout all modes of flight (day, night, and night vision devices) ISO Unified Land Operations. One of the many highlights from FY20 included:

  • Provided personnel and aviation asset support to Operation A’ole Inoa on Hawai‘i island, in response to potential civil unrest on Mauna Kea.
  • Provided personnel and aviation assets to the Joint Task Force, Task Force Aviation, and Task Force Hawai‘i in support of the State of Hawai‘i’s COVID-19 response.

Company C, 1st Battalion, 183rd Aviation Regiment (Co. C, 1-183rd AVN)

Commanded by 1st Lt. Sydnie Collins and 1st Sgt. Duke Takasawa, Co. C, 1-183rd AVN deploys worldwide in order to provided air assault and air movement operations in multi-domain operations. On order, provides National Guard Civil Support throughout the state.

  • JRTC 2023: Aircrews deployed to San Diego, Calif. to receive and build up aircraft for movement to Fort Johnson, La. The unit conducted joint readiness training with 29th IBCT units in HIARNG and provided aerial mission support from July 8 to Aug. 6, 2023.
  • Sling Load Training: Aircrews slung a Humvee while Soldiers of Defense Forensic Science Center practiced multiple iterations of load hook ups at Kilauea Military Reserve (KMR) on Nov. 4, 2023. The unit provided sling load and resupply mission training to Forward Support Company (29th IBCT).
  • Air Assault Multi-ship Training: Aircrews practiced multi-ship air assaults from AASF#2-Hilo to ‘Upolu Airport-Kohala, Hawai‘i as part of mission essential task air assault training on Feb. 3, 2024. This was held for mission essential task completion and aircrew proficiency.
  • Aircraft Re-fueling Operations: Soldiers of E Co. Detachment provided refueling support to Co. C,1-183rd AVN during field training exercise on Feb. 3, 2024 at KMR to conduct re-fueling support in a field environment.

The Blackhawk unit is headquartered at Hilo. Its mission is to deploy worldwide to provide air assault and air movement operations throughout all modes of flight (day, night, and night vision devices) in support of unified land operations. On order, provides National Guard civil support throughout Hawai‘i.

  • Supported the state and its counties with water bucket/fire suppression support throughout the 2024 and 2025 fire season.
  • Provided subject matter expert exchange support to the 205th PHW Philippine Air Force; provided demonstrations such as sling load operations, instrument flight rules, night vision devices and flight academics.
  • Conducted underwater egress training in order to qualify 24 Pilots and Crew Chiefs Co. C, 1-183rd AVN provided Air Movement support to 60 Soldiers from the 1-299 CAV during their annual training.

183rd Aviation Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description/Blazon

A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Per fess enhanced dancetty of two, Azure and Argent, an eagle in flight in shades of Brown, a point wavy Azure. Attached below the shield a Black scroll inscribed “AVES PRAEDAE” in Silver.

Symbolism

Ultramarine blue is the primary color traditionally associated with Aviation units.  Blue is also symbolic of the sky, the unit’s theater of operations and reflects perseverance, devotion and loyalty. The eagle, denoting flight, swiftness, aggressiveness and mobility underscores the unit’s motto and mission. The white division of the shield suggests Idaho’s majestic mountains. The blue wavy bar represents the Snake River and alludes to the unit’s primary training area. Black recalls solidity, cohesion and strength. The black and white/silver together suggest the capability of both night and day operations. The motto translates to “Birds of Prey.”
