Significance

Ultramarine Blue and Air Force Yellow are the Air Force colors. Blue alludes to the sky, the primary theater of Air Force operations. Yellow refers to the sun and the excellence required of Air Force personnel. The octopus (He’e), revered in Hawaii, represents flexibility, intelligence, and multifaceted qualities. Each tenacle suggests the Squadron’s force support capabilities: personnel readiness and accountability, casualty and Mortuary Affairs, Military Personnel systems and manpower, Sustainment Services, Fatality Search and Recovery, Force Development, Commander Support, and Airman and Family Readiness. The torch (lamakū) signifies wisdom and perseverance, as well as captures the hallmark of Force Support organizations – strength, vigilance, spirit, and camaraderie. The spear (ihe) symbolizes the immense power of the USAF core values – integrity first, service before self, and excellence. The stylized aircraft indicates support for the airpower mission. The volcanic tuff alludes to Diamond Head and the Hawaii Air National Guard, Aloha, and the communities served. The Hawaiian motto “KŌKUA AKU” translates to “IN SUPPORT OF OTHERS.”
