Brigadier General Michael R. Roman, commander of the 29th Infantry Brigade, was promoted to his present rank 1 March 1960.

General Roman first enlisted in the 299th Infantry, HNG, in 1934. Commissioned a 2nd Lt in 1940, he entered Federal Service a year later and was sent to Infantry School at Fort Benning, Ga. He advanced steadily through the grades and upon leaving Federal Service in 1946, he joined the HARNG.

In 1948-49, General Roman commanded the 299th RCT. Before that, he was Executive Officer of the Regiment. From May 1959 to January 1960, he served as Executive Officer of the 29th Infantry Brigade. He was appointed Brigade Commander in February 1960.

He holds the Army Defense Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Bronze Star.

He makes his home at 61 Halai Street, Hilo, Hawaii with his wife and three children.
