Local earthquake off the coast of Hawai`i Island
No threat of tsunami to state
HONOLULU — An earthquake occurred at 11:49 am on Sunday, October 10, 2021, off the Kau Coast of the Big Island, with a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 on the Richter Scale.
Based on all available data from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, there is no tsunami threat to the Hawaiian Islands.
The Hawai`i Emergency Management Agency (HI-EMA) is working with Hawai`i County Civil Defense to monitor the situation and to assess any damages that may have occurred.
Residents and visitors are urged to monitor local media for updates.
