Army Recovery Care Program (ARCP) – Soldier Recovery Unit
Designed to support service members recovering from injuries or illnesses, providing comprehensive care coordination, rehabilitation, and professional development to facilitate their transition back to duty or veteran status. To be eligible for the ARCP, service members must have sustained injuries or illnesses while on active duty and require complex care. The program is not available to Army Reserve or National Guard service members on drill status unless they meet specific criteria. The Soldier Recovery Unit (SRU) is a specialized military unit designed to provide comprehensive support and rehabilitation for soldiers who are wounded, ill, or injured and require extended medical care.
Reserve Component Managed Care (RCMC)
Designed to support soldiers with low risk, low acuity medical conditions requiring more than 30 days of medical care but no more than 179 days. It mandates a specific treatment plan of 30 days or more, consisting of two or more medical appointments per week, and aims to direct progress toward the Medical Retention Decision Point (MRDP). Soldiers on RCMC orders will not perform or attend Title 32 training or non-federal missions. Service member must have an approved In Line of Duty Determination or provide documentation that proves their injury, illness, or disease was incurred during a duty status of more than 30 continuous days.
Disability Evaluation System (DES)
Designed to determine whether a service member will return to duty, be medically separated, or medically retired due to disability. It ensures that service members who are unable to perform their duties due to medical issues receive appropriate evaluations and benefits.
- Medical Evaluation Board (MEB) is designed to evaluate service members who have duty related medical condition that may affect their ability to perform their military duties. Service member must have an approved In Line of Duty Determination or provide documentation that proves their injury, illness, or disease was incurred during a duty status of more than 30 continuous days. Service members can only be referred to the MEB by a military medical provider.
- Non-Duty Related Physical Evaluation Board (NDR-PEB) is a specialized board within the Disability Evaluation System (DES) that evaluates non-duty related conditions that may affect a service member’s ability to perform military duties. The board’s primary role is to determine whether a service member’s condition is unfitting for continued military service. Unlike the Physical Evaluation Board (PEB), which assigns a disability rating, the NDR-PEB does not assign a disability rating but instead makes a final determination on whether a non-duty related condition is unfitting for continued military service.
Military Occupational Specialty Administrative Retention Review (MAR2)
Determines whether a service member with a permanent physical profile (P3 or P4) will be retained in their primary military occupational specialty (PMOS), reclassified into another MOS, or referred to the Disability Evaluation System (DES). This process is crucial for managing soldier retention and ensuring that personnel are fit for their assigned roles.
