COL Louis N.H.M. Miranda Jr.
Colonel Miranda was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers upon completion of the Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia, in October 1961. He joined the Hawaii Army National Guard in April 1952 and served in a variety of command and staff positions which included Tactical Officer, HARNG OCS; aide-de-camp to Commander, HARNG, and as a Battery Commander of 1st Battalion 487th Field Artillery. He was called to active duty with the 29th Brigade in October 1968 and served in the Republic of Vietnam as a Target Analyst and Artillery Operations Officer with the Capital Military Assistance Command.
Upon return from active duty in December 1969, Colonel Miranda served as Commander, Headquarters t Headquarters Detachment, HARNG; Executive Officer, 1st Battalion 487th Field Artillery; Operations and Plans Officer, G3 section, HARNG; and Commander, 1st Battalion 299th Infantry. He was the Brigade Executive Officer from June 1977-August 1982. He assumed command of the Brigade in August 1982. He is a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College.
His decorations and awards include the Bronze Star Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal w/ Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster, I National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/20 yr service, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal w/2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Technical Service Medal 1st Class, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal, HNG Medal for Merit, HNG Commendation Medal, HNG Service Medal (30 yrs), HNG Federal Service Ribbon, and HNG State Active Duty Ribbon.

COL Donald M. Oura
Colonel Oura was commissioned a second lieutenant, Infantry, from the University of Hawaii ROTC program and entered active duty in May 1960.
Colonel Oura continued on active duty until August 1973 and served in a variety of duty positions such as Detachment Commander and S3 (Air) Officer with the 8th Special Forces Group in the Canal Zone; Battalion Executive Officer, 2d Battalion 12th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division, Vietnam; Deputy Headquarters Commandant for Headquarters, USARPAC, Fort Shafter; Senior Advisor, Song Be District, Vietnam (2d tour); and Reserve Component Coordinator with the Directorate of Planning and Training at Fort Ord, Califonia.
Colonel Oura joined the Hawaii Army National Guard in August 1973 and has served as S3, Executive Officer, and Commander, 1st Battalion 299th Infantry; Commandant, Hawaii Military Academy; and as Assistant G3, Hawaii Army National Guard. He is a graduate of the US Army War College.

BG John R. D’ Araujo
General D’Araujo, Jr. was commissioned a second lieutenant on June 28, 1963, after attending the Hawaii Army National Guard Officer Candidate School at the State of Hawaii Military Academy.
When the 29th Separate Infantry Brigade was activated, General D’Araujo served as target acquisition platoon commander, Headquarters and Service Battery of the Guard’s 1st Battalion, 487th Field Artillery. Additionally, he served as chief, plans and nuclear division, G3, in Headquarters, U.S. Army, Hawaii, and served in Vietnam in command of a mobile advisory team for nine months in 1969.
In 1978, he became commander of the Army National Guard’s Troop Command. Two years later, he attended and graduated from the Army War College and was promoted to the rank of colonel in May 1981. In July 1981, General D’Araujo became the U.S. property and fiscal officer for the Guam National Guard.
In March 1983, General D’Araujo became the senior Army National Guard advisor to the commanding general, U.S. Army Mobilization and Readiness Division, Army Directorate, for the National Guard Bureau. In January he became the chief of the Organization Training Division, Army Directorate, National Guard Bureau in the Pentagon.

BG Edward L. Correa
General Correa has served as the commander of the 29th Infantry Brigade (Separate) since August 1994.
General Correa was born in Hilo, Hawaii, and received his commission through the U.S. Army Armor Officer Candidate School in 1966. On active duty, he served with the U.S. Army Training Center, Armor (USATCA) in a variety of command and staff positions until 1969.
After active duty, General Correa assumed duties with the 29th Infantry Brigade from 1970 to 1976. His assignments included Inspector General; Assistant S2 and S3; and Commander, Troop E, 19th Cavalry. In 1976, he was assigned as the Senior Tactical Officer of the Hawaii Military Academy and reassigned as the Assistant Commandant in 1978. In 1980, General Correa served as the Mobilization Readiness Officer for Headquarters, State Area Command. In 1983, he returned to the 29th Infantry Brigade as the Executive Officer and transferred to Headquarters, State Area Command to serve as the G2. In 1991, General Correa assumed command of the 103d Troop Command and Deputy Commander, Hawaii Army National Guard. While in those assignments, he participated in Operation Iniki on Kauai.
General Correa’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, the Army Service Component Achievement Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Reserve Overseas Training Ribbon.
General Correa earned his doctorate degree from the University of Hawaii, William S. Richardson School of Law. He and his wife, Johanna, have three sons: Edward III (a guardsman), John, Michael, and two daughters, Angela and Mary.

BG Dennis A. Kamimura
Colonel Kamimura was commissioned as a second lieutenant, Field Artillery, in 1969 through the ROTC Program at Gonzaga University.
He served with C Troop 3117th Cavalry in the Republic of Vietnam as an Aviation Officer. After five and a half years of active service in the U.S. Anny, Colonel Kamimura joined the Hawaii Anny National Guard in October 1974 and served in various staff and command positions. He was assigned as Commander Aero Scout, Flight Operations Officer, Company Commander, Aviation Staff Officer, and on 1 May 1971, as Battalion Commander, 1st Battalion, 193d Aviation. He was transferred to 1st Battalion, 487th Field Artillery, on 1 April 1991, where he was assigned as Battalion Commander and later transferred to Headquarters, State Area Command, as Assistant G3.
He assumed command of Troop Conunand on I August 1994. He was transferred to Headquarters, State Area Command, as Deputy Commander OD 22 July 1996.
Colonel Kamimura is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the U.S. Army War College. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and attained his masters of Business Administration from Pepperdine University.
His awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal (1st OLC), Army Achievement Medal (1st OLC), Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (1st OLC), National Defense Service Medal (2d Awd), Vietnam Service Medal, An11ed Forces Reserve Medal, Anny Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Hawaii National Guard Commendation Medal, and the Hawaii National Guard Service Medal.
Colonel Kamimura is the Licensing Administrator for the City and County of Honolulu.
He and his wife, Diane, have three children: Denise, Daniel, and Dayna.

BG Joseph J. Chaves
Brigadier General Joseph James Chaves was born on 26 February 1951, in Honolulu, Hawaii. He began his military service in the Hawaii Army National Guard on August 2, 1970 as an enlisted soldier where he attained the rank of sergeant. He received his commission as a Second Lieutenant from the Hawaii Military Academy on August 17, 1973.
Brigadier General Chaves has held a variety of command and staff positions within the Hawaii Army National Guard to include Chief, Post Mobilization, HQ, STARC, HIARNG; Deputy Commander, 29th Separate Infantry Brigade; Logistic Officer, Headquarters, State Area Command, Hawaii; Battalion Commander, 297th Supply and Service Battalion; State Training Officer, Headquarters, State Area Command, Hawaii; S3, 29th Infantry Brigade (Separate); S3-Air, 29th Infantry Brigade; Commander, Combat Support Company, 1st Battalion, 299th Infantry; Communication-Electronic Officer, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 299th Infantry; Executive Officer, Heavy Mortar Platoon Leader, Anti-Tank Platoon Leader, and Scout Platoon Leader, Combat Support Company, 1st Battalion, 299th Infantry.
Brigadier General Chaves is a graduate of the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Infantry Mortar Platoon Leaders Course, Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, Infantry Officer Advanced Course, Joint Firepower Course, Battle Staff Course, Joint Airspace Command and Control Course, Multifunctional Pre-Command Course, Infantry Officer Pre-Command Course, and the United States Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Brigadier General Chaves is a 1994 graduate of the United States Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. He most recently completed the National Guard Bureau’s Title 10/32 Joint Task Force Commanders Course at Northern Command, Colorado and the Joint/Coalition Forces Land Component Commanders Course at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania.
On April 1, 2006, Brigadier General Chaves assumed command of the Hawaii Army National Guard. He was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General on May 13, 2004. He previously served as the Commander of the 29th Separate Infantry Brigade. He was activated for federal service on August 16, 2004 and served as the Commander of the 29th Brigade Combat Team in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom 2004-2006.
He received a Bachelor of Education degree in secondary education from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and Masters of Science degree in Computer Information Systems from the University of Phoenix. He graduated from the U.S. Army’s Professional Management for Executive Course in Overland, Kansas, in 1998 and the Office of Personnel Management Executive Development Seminar: Leading Change in Denver, Colorado in 2001. Brigadier General Chaves was formally certified by the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR).
Brigadier General Chaves currently is working full-time as federal military technician.

COL Bruce E. Oliveira
Colonel Bruce E. Oliveira was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. A 1981 graduate of the University of Hawaii, he holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Education. He is also a graduate of the Infantry Officers’ Advanced Course at Fort Benning, Georgia; the Command General and Staff College, in Leavenworth, Kansas; and the Army War College, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, where he earned his second Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies.
Colonel Oliveira enlisted in the Hawaii Army National Guard on August 1, 1978. He has served in a variety of command and staff positions in the 29th Infantry Brigade and the 25th Infantry Division throughout his career. In 1980, upon completion of Officers Candidate School from the Hawaii Military Academy, Colonel Oliveira was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 299th Infantry, serving first as a Rifle Platoon Leader and subsequently as Anti-tank Platoon Leader, Mortar Platoon Leader, Combat Support Company Commander, Anti-tank Company Commander, and Battalion Operations Officer. He was later assigned to the 29th Support Battalion as Operations Officer and then Executive Officer. Follow on assignments include Assistant Operations Officer, 29th Separate Infantry Brigade; Commander, 25th Infantry Division Detachment Rear; Brigade Operations Officer, 29th Separate Infantry Brigade; and Commander, 2nd Battalion, 299th Infantry. He was activated for federal service on August 15, 2004 and served as the Deputy Commander of the 29th Brigade Combat Team in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 2004-2006. In June 2007, he assumed the duties as the Commander of the 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. On August 19, 2008, he was activated for federal service, serving as Task Force Lava Thunder Commander in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Colonel Oliveira’s civilian profession is with the Hawaii Department of Education as a Student Services Coordinator. Prior to his tenure as Student Services Coordinator, he served in positions of Vice Principal at the Secondary and Elementary School level, School Counselor at the Secondary and Elementary level, and Teacher at the Secondary level.
Colonel Oliveira is an active community member working in various community youth sports programs, the American Youth Soccer Organization, and the Police Activities League. Furthermore, he has coached at the several Hawaii High Schools, Chaminade University, and the University of Hawaii.
Colonel Oliveira and his wife Jeanne have three children, Alaka’i attending Wake Forest University, Keliko attending University of Nevada Las Vegas, and Kamehana attending the University of San Diego.

COL Keith Y. Tamashiro
Colonel Keith Y. Tamashiro was commissioned as a Distinguished Military Graduate m the Field Artillery on June 10, 1984 through the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program at DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois.
Colonel Tamashiro served on active duty from 1984 to 1988 as a Company Fire Support Officer, Battery Fire Direction Officer Battery Executive Officer, 51 and Battalion Fire Support Officer. In December 1988, he left active duty and joined the 1st Battalion, 487th Field Artillery of the Hawaii National Guard. He served as the Fire Direction Officer, Battery Commander (B Btry), Plans Officer, Fire Support Officer, 53, and Executive Officer. On April 7, 2001, he
assumed command of the 1st Battalion, 487th Field Artillery. He served as the Commander for over five years, the longest battalion commander in the history of the unit. He led the battalion as part of the 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team’s deployment in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom in 2004. In addition to commanding the battalion, he was the base camp commander for over 2100 personnel at the Kuwait Naval Base while also managing Soldiers spread out over three different locations in Iraq. He relinquished command in July 2006 and was reassigned as the Deputy Chief of Staff at the Joint Force Headquarters. On July 8, 2007, he assumed command of the 298th Regional Training Institute (RTI), Multifunctional Training Unit. During his command, the 298th Regional Training Institute achieved the highest accreditation rating, the Institute of Excellence, during the unit’s last accreditation inspection He relinquished command on May 2, 2010.
Colonel Tamashiro was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois but has a long family history in Hawaii. He has resided in the state of Hawaii for the past 26 years. He is married to the former lwalaru (Iwie) Kaninau of Wahiawa, Hawaii and they currently reside in Mililani.
Colonel Tamashiro’s military schools include Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, Field Artillery officer Advance Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Command and General Staff officers Course, Army War College, Airborne School, and Air Assault School.
Colonel Tamashiro’ s awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” device and Silver hour glass, Army service ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Army Reserved Components Overseas Training Ribbon.
Colonel Tamashiro has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from DePaul University and a Masters Degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College When not serving in his duties in the the Hawaii National Guard, he works for the State of Hawaii’s Department of Human Services First-To-Work Program where he manages a welfare program helping people gam employment and educational skills.
Colonel Tamashiro is active in the community where he serves as an elected official on the Mililani Mauka Neighborhood Board. He enjoys running, reading and being involved in community activities.
