Command Sergeant Major Dana W. Wingad was born in Arcadia, California on May 10, 1972. He enlisted in the United States Army on October 16, 1992 as an Airborne Anti-Armor Infantryman. He completed Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benning, Georgia and was awarded the MOS 11 Hotel (Heavy Anti-Armor Weapons Infantryman).  On December 21, 1995, he joined the Hawaii Army National Guard (HIARNG) and was working as a civilian for the Maui Police Department.  In 2003, he began working full time as an Active Guard Reserve Soldier for the HIARNG. 

     During his career, he has held many leadership and responsibility positions  to include: Airborne Anti-Armor Infantryman, Infantry Team Leader, Infantry Squad Leader, Infantry Weapons Squad Leader, Combat Arms Instructor, Instructor/Writer Warrior Leader Course (WLC), Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course (BNCOC), Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course (ANCOC), Senior Instructor/Writer BNCOC, ANCOC, Branch Chief WLC, BNCOC, Senior OCS Instructor, Infantry Platoon Sergeant, Brigade Operations Sergeant, HHC Brigade First Sergeant,  Brigade Operations Sergeant Major, Battalion Command Sergeant Major and NCOA Commandant. Currently, he holds the position of Command Sergeant Major for the Hawaii Army National Guard.

     His military education consists of: Heavy Anti-Armor Weapon Crewmen, Airborne School, Jungle Operations Training Center, Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Total Army Instructor Training Course, Small Group Instructor Training Course, Advance Noncommissioned Officer Course, Tac Officer Training and Orientation Course, Unit Antiterrorism Advance Course, Pathfinder School, and United States Army First Sergeant Course. He is a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class-61). He possesses a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and a Masters Degree in Education.

     His military awards decorations include Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (4^th Award), Army Commendation Medal (3^rd  Award), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (3^rd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (4^th Award), Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (2^nd Award), National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (2^nd Award) with M device and Bronze Hourglass, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (4^th Award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2^nd Award), Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon (9th Award), Hawaii Army National Guard Service Medal, Hawaii National Guard State Active Duty Ribbon, Global War on Terror Federal Service Ribbon, Hawaii National Guard Excellence-in-Training Recognition Ribbon, Expert Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, and Battalion Career Counselor Badge. He is also the recipient of The Order of Saint Maurice (Primicerius) and The Order of Saint Barbara.

Command Sergeant Major Wingad is a life member of several professional organizations including Infantry Association, AUSA and EANGUS. He has deployed twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  He resides in Hawaii with his wife Erica and his four children: Noah (15 years), Emmalee (11 years), Evan (10 years) and Brody (1year).
