Hawaii Army National Guard Soldier Killed in Afghanistan is Positively Identified

The Hawaii Army National Guard soldier killed in an aircraft accident in eastern Afghanistan on Friday, has been positively identified as Sgt. Drew M. Scobie, of Kailua. Sgt. Scobie was one of three Americans aboard the MC-12 surveillance aircraft that crashed. There were no survivors. Sgt. Scobie’s remains were flown to Dover AFB, Delaware, where positive identification was made. His remains are expected to arrive in Hawaii in the next several days. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Based on explicit guidance from the National Guard Bureau and the DoD, the Hawaii National Guard is recalling almost all of its federal technician workforce, beginning Monday, 7 Oct. In rare exceptions some technicians will not be recalled to work immediately. They will be notified individually by their supervisors. All other fed tech will begin reporting to work tomorrow and Tuesday. Due to the shutdown of the Federal Government and the continuing uncertainty of a timely resolution, the Hawaii National Guard has postponed its weekend training, originally scheduled for Oct. 5-6. Most Hawaii Army National Guard (HIARNG) units are now tentatively scheduled to perform IDT drills Oct. 19-20. HIARNG soldiers should check with their respective commands for exceptions to the general rule.
