Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month
The Hawaiʻi National Guard is recognizing April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAPM), joining a nationwide effort to raise awareness, support survivors and reinforce a culture of dignity and respect across the force and community.
Watch Seniors Leaders within the Hawaiʻi National Guard emphasize that prevention begins with people, through everyday actions that build trust, respect and a safe environment. The observance serves as a reminder that sexual violence undermines readiness, unit cohesion and the well-being of service members and their families.
The Hawaiʻi National Guard encourages all members of its ‘ohana to take part in the month by learning the signs of harmful behavior, supporting those who come forward and committing to a culture where sexual assault is not tolerated.
Month of the Military Child
The Hawaiʻi National Guard is joining communities across the nation in recognizing April as the Month of the Military Child, honoring the resilience, sacrifices and contributions of military-connected keki throughout the islands.
Throughout April, activities will take place to celebrate military keki. The Youth and Child Program is hosting:
- Bowling – Military families are invited to take part in a bowling event held April 18th, offering a fun, relaxed environment for families to connect and spend time together.
- Egg Hunt – A special egg-travaganza gives keki the chance to participate in games, win prizes and enjoy a festive experience alongside other military families.
The month is not only about celebration, but also awareness. Military children navigate unique emotional and social challenges, including time apart from parents during training or deployments. Recognizing their experiences helps build stronger support systems in schools, neighborhoods and communities.
While April serves as a dedicated time of recognition, support for military children should continue year-round, reflecting their ongoing contributions to the nation’s defense and the well-being of military families.
