It’s tough to put a dollars and cents figure on the value of your Hawaii Air National Guard benefits. Yet, they are a very real part of your income. They make your Hawaii Air National Guard career much more valuable and enjoyable to you and your family. There are many benefits by becoming an Air Guard member. Here are just a few of them.

Base Shopping Privileges:

As a member of the Hawaii Air National Guard, you can shop at military bases throughout the world, tax free. The base commissary offers great discounts, (25%-30%), over most local food chains.

Space Available Travel Benefits:

Members are entitled to travel on any military aircraft within the continental United States for free.

Retirement Benefits:

If you remain in the Hawaii Air National Guard for 20 years, you will be eligible for a retirement check. Retirement is available to members at age 60. You will be eligible for medical treatment at any active duty facility on a Space Available basis after 60.

Term Life Insurance:

Serviceman’s Group Life Insurance (SGLI) is available to all members of the Hawaii Air National Guard. Coverage is only a few cents a day. More importantly, the premium does not increase significantly throughout your Guard career.

Earn Money:

You’ll earn good pay for one weekend per month and 15 days per year. Your pay will be adjusted automatically for cost-of-living increases.

Educational Benefits:

The educational benefits that are available to members of the Hawaii Air National Guard are “Second to None”. For those who are interested in higher education but cannot afford the ever-escalating costs, the Hawaii Air National Guard is an ideal way to meet this challenge. It offers programs such as the Montgomery GI Bill, Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve Kicker Program, Tuition Assistance,  and a Cash Bonus Program.

Community College of the Air Force:

Members are automatically enrolled upon enlistment into the Air National Guard. After months of hands-on training, many members find themselves with a talent they want to turn into something more. The CCAF, which is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, exists to help the men and women of the Air National Guard to maximize these opportunities. CCAF can also give you credit for job-related technical and academic courses and it’s the only military school with the authority to grant an Associate Degree.
