DESCRIPTION: This free, web-based training provides a methodology to identify and retrofit specific vulnerabilities in wood light-frame dwellings. Wood light-frame residential buildings represent the most common type of dwelling in the United States. Although this type of construction in one- and two-family configurations has generally provided good performance in past earthquakes, there are well-known vulnerabilities that have led to large numbers of homes being rendered uninhabitable or even unrepairable following an earthquake. Improved seismic design and seismic retrofitting of these structures will increase the probability that homes are available to provide shelter immediately following moderate to large seismic events.
