Second Red Cross shelter open for residents affected by Kilauea lava threat

HILO, HI: May 3, 2018 – The American Red Cross has opened a second shelter for residents evacuated from their homes due to the Kilauea lava threat at the Keaau Community Center (16-186 Pili Mua St, Keaau, HI 96749)

The shelter at the Pahoa Community Center remains open as well.

Evacuees are reminded to bring their emergency supply kits, including medicines, food, and items to provide personal comfort.

The Red Cross is a non-profit humanitarian organization which provides assistance to meet the immediate emergency needs of those affected by disasters. All Red Cross assistance to disaster victims is free. The Red Cross is not a government agency; it depends on public contributions to help others.
