Hawaii’s geographic location and its high number of volcanic related earthquakes…make all islands vulnerable to both “distant and locally generated” tsunamis. Over the past 70 years 222 lives have been lost on Hawaii shores from powerful tsunamis generated by destructive earthquakes.
