HONOLULU, HI- The Secretary of Defense, James Mattis, and Governor David Ige
have approved the formation or stand up of Joint Task Force 5-0 (JTF 5-0).
The formation of JTF 5-0 establishes a clear chain of command to maintain
operational unity between state and federal efforts and increase efficiency.
Brig. Gen. Kenneth Hara has been appointed as the commander of JTF 5-0.
Hara is the Deputy Adjutant General for the State of Hawaii and the Hawaii
Army National Guard Commander. He will oversee a joint Hawaii National Guard
and active duty military joint task force. JTF 5-0 may be requested to
conduct Search and Rescue, Incident Awareness and Assessment, Debris
Clearance, Security, and Emergency Evacuation.
