GI Bill Benefits

Overview: The GI Bill provides comprehensive educational benefits to service members, veterans, and their families.

Montgomery GI Bill – Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR) (Chapter 1606):

Eligibility:

  • Actively participating in the Selected Reserve
  • Completed high school or equivalent
  • Six-year obligation in the Selected Reserve
  • Completed initial active duty for training

Benefits:

  • Up to 36 months of education benefits
  • Monthly payments: $481 for full-time, $360 for 3/4-time, $240 for 1/2-time, and $120.50 for less than 1/2-time enrollment

Post-9/11 GI Bill (PGIB) (Chapter 33)

Eligibility:

  • At least 90 days of aggregate active duty service after September 10, 2001
  • Honorable discharge

Benefits:

  • Up to 36 months of benefits
  • Covers tuition and fees up to 100% for in-state public schools; private or foreign school tuition is capped at $28,937.09 per year
  • Monthly housing allowance based on location
  • Annual book and supply stipend up to $1,000​

Yellow Ribbon Program

Eligibility:

  • Must be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill at the 100% benefit level

Benefits:

  • Additional funds for tuition and fees exceeding the GI Bill cap, matched by the VA and the institution.

Application Process:

  • Visit the VA website and complete the application
  • Receive the Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) and submit it to your School Certifying Official (SCO).

Confirm Monthly Enrollments:

  • Step 1: Opt into text notifications (14-day link)
  • Step 2: On the last day of the month, you will be sent a text requesting enrollment verification for that month.
  • Reply “Yes” to verify enrollment. If you don’t respond in 6 days, the conversation will close and you will have to call the Education Call Center (ECC) at 1-888-GIBILL-1 (1-888-442-4551)
  • Reply “No” if your enrollment has changed and contact your School Certifying Official (SCO) to ensure your enrollment record has been adjusted.
