Check Six: HIANG Responds to Reno Air Race Crash – 8 years ago
Posted on Sep 23, 2019 in 2010's, Check SixHawaii Air Guardsmen were among the first to respond to a crash at the National Championship Air Races in Reno, Nevada on September 16, 2011. Twenty five members of the Hawaii Air National Guard’s 154th Wing were displaying one of their C-17 Globemaster aircraft at the event when a WWII-era P-51 plane crashed into the audience, killing eleven people and injuring dozens of others.
The Guardsmen turned a food tent into a triage center, caring for all who needed attention and sending the more seriously injured to the area hospitals and treatment centers. Air Guardsmen from Nevada and Alaska also provided incident security.
