UH Hilo develops a flight training program

This is the program Kai Kahele (HIANG C-17 pilot and Hawaiian Air captain) and his father Senator Gilbert Kahele were advocating. The school will offer courses that Guardmembers can parallel their military training and receive a degree. The Guard could also recruit students out of this program.

The University of Hawaii is ending its flight training program at Honolulu Community College, but student pilot-hopefuls could get another chance at UH Hilo, a university official confirmed.

The new University of Hawaii at Hilo flight training program is in “the beginning stages of establishing,” while the HCC program at Kalaeloa winds down, UH Spokesman Dan Meisenzahl told Pacific Business News.
