HILO, Hawaii – Gerald Takase, Hawaii County Liquor Commission supervisor, received a Department of Defense Patriot Award June 1, in recognition of his continued support provided to his employee, TSgt Nestor Cacho, Hawaii Air National Guard.

Hawaii ESGR volunteer, Donna Shimizu presented the award.

Takase stated, “I was very honored to receive the award and thank Nestor for remembering me, even as a retired officer, the recognition is nice.  Although, it (the award), should be for everyone in the office since they all shared in the sacrifice to pick up the slack in Nestor’s absence”.

“The surprise presentation was done with typical Big Island flair, filled with lots of food and beautiful maile lei to celebrate the occasion,” added Shimizu.
