2017 Hawaii National Guard at the American Civil War Memorial Day Commemorative

Present, former Hawaii Guard Soldiers, and Airmen help at the American Civil War Memorial Day Commemorative. The ceremony was held on May 17, 2017 at Oahu Cemetery

The 2017 Memorial Day Commemorative of the Royal order of Kamehameha I, Hawaii Chapter and the Hawaii Civil War Round Table honors the 119 men from the Kingdom of Hawaii confirmed to have served in the American Civil War. An addition, names and service records of 100 locally born men are being researched according to retired U.S. Navy Reserve commander Eric S. Mueller (Hawaii Civil War Round Table living history coordinator/Civil War reenactor).

Helping in many levels were:  Royal Order of Kamehameha I members and Hawaii Army National Guard retirees State Command Sgt. Maj. James Kahalehoe and Master Sgt. Haines Rego, and Royal Hawaiian Bandmaster, Sgt. Clarke Bright. Representing were ­today’s Hawaii National Guard command were Brig. Gen. Keith Y. Tamashiro, Hawaii Army National Guard commander; Col. Moses Kaoiwi Jr., 29th Infantry Brigade commander and director of Joint Staff; Col. Stephen F. Logan, HIARNG chief of staff; Col. Gregory M. Scrivner, Hawaii Air National Guard director of staff.

Enlisted were represented by HIARNG Command Sgt. Maj. Leonard H. Ventura; HIANG’s 154th Wing Command Chief Master Sgt. Michael Gabster; and the HIANG’s Ceremonial Royal Guard.
