Check Six: Remembering Dennis

Remembering Dennis Dalen, a Hawai‘i Air National Guard member who died 23 years ago today during the Hurricane Iniki recovery mission.  Dennis was a member of the 297th Air Traffic Control Flight, as it was named in 1992.

He was 46 and died during the storm cleanup on Kauai’s North Shore when the truck he was driving flipped as he tried to avoid live power lines.

Dennis was buried the Hawai‘i State Cemetery in Kāne‘ohe.

The photograph above shows Dennis received an award from Colonel Melvin Morris, the 201st Combat Communications Group commander. The photograph was taken in 1990.
