Compoc

On January 17, 1994, TSgt Eddy Compoc died during a Hawai‘i Air National Guard (HIANG) Fun Run at Bellows AFS.

Eddy enlisted and spent 10 years on active duty with the Air Force.  He joined the HIANG as a staff sergeant in the Consolidated Base Personnel Office (CBPO) when it was part of the 154th Combat Support Squadron. (For those too young to remember, the CBPO is the predecessor of the current Military Personnel Flight (MPF), now part of the 154th Force Sustainment Squadron.)

He worked fulltime in the CBPO as an administrative specialist but later took a job in the civilian sector and transitioned to a drill status billet.

Eddy returned to technician status when he was hired as an administrative specialist with the then 199th Tactical Fighter Squadron. He later transferred to a fulltime finance technician position in the Comptroller Office.

Eddy was a proud graduate of Kahuku High School – class of 1957. He was one of their staunchest football supporters. Many will remember the large Kahuku logo – the large black “K” in a bright red circle – on his old gray metal government desk.

Eddy was also a diehard volleyball fan and player. He was a regular at the Rainbow Wahine games when the Nā Wahine played in the old Klum Gym on the University of Hawai‘i, Mānoa campus.

This is a reprint of an article from Retiree News, when it was an electronic newsletter. Darryl Ho, the retired chief master sergeant who was the NCOIC of the CBPO provided the information in the article.  Thanks again to the Chief.
