Environmental Office Logo

In July 2000, the HIARNG Environmental Office commissioned local artist Nicholas Black to design a logo for the environmental program that was as unique as the program itself.Mr. Black combined the elements of strength and stewardship by embodying the spirit of the program in a decorated and adorned warrior figure. In the foreground, representing our natural resources is the endangered ‘ohai, a endangered Hawaiian species that the HIARNG Environmental office is committed to protecting and restoring.

Retired U. S. Army Sergeant First Class Louis “Moon” R. Kauakahi helped to ensure that the proper Hawaiian language was used for our motto.

“Mālama i Ka ´Āina Koa”
“Preserving the Soldier’s Land”
