The Law Enforcement Torch Run is more than just a run! It is a year-round fund-raising organization that culminates at the State Summer Games with the Final Leg running into the Special Olympics Hawai’i Opening Ceremonies at the University of Hawaiʻi. Over 2,500 law enforcement personnel from federal, military, state, county and local agencies participate in the Troy Barboza Law Enforcement Torch Run throughout the state, with legs on Kauai, Maui, Hawai’i, and Oahu.
Every year the Final Leg, here on Oahu, law enforcement officers and friends carry the Flame of Hope from Fort DeRussey through Waikiki, up to T. C. Ching Field, and into the Opening Ceremonies of our State Summer Games. Along with athletes, volunteers, families, and friends cheering the runners on, the Flame of Hope ignites the Opening Ceremonies cauldron and the games are declared open!
