Taps: Aurora Lee – Updated
Posted on Jun 24, 2016 in TapsSpecial thanks to Rocky Bruhn, who wrote the following tribute on Aurora Lee.
It is with deepest sorrow that I notify members of the Hawaii National Guard of SMSgt Aurora Lee’s passing on Mother’s Day, May 8, 2016.
She was a true woman warrior who performed duty with excellence and integrity. She mentored many airman and officers during her 33 year and 14-day career. initially enlisted as a Radio Relay Equipment Repairman, AFSC 30430 with the 169th Aircraft Control & Warning Squadron. She then cross trained in the Information Manager position where she became the IM for the 199th Fighter Squadron.
She later moved to the Consolidated Base Personnel Office (CBPO) and worked under the tutelage of CMSgt Darryl Ho. During this time the 702X0 and the personnel AFSC merged and she became the NCOIC of the Quality Forces section.
Aurora terminated her AGR position in 1988 when she accepted a Title 10 position at the ANG Readiness Center. Her expertise in personnel accountability placed her on many ANG workgroups and teams, one of which she excelled and made national impact. She was the lead contingency personnel expert on the Air National Guard Order Writing System (AROWS) core team, which added MPA/CED accountability to all ANG orders.
She enriched all those who came in contact with her with her quick wit and steady demeanor. She retired on June 1, 2007 after serving as the Contingency/War Plan, Personnel Superintendent.
Aurora will be missed by her HIANG ‘ohana, as well as, her ANG family.
A short commemoration of her service with military honors will be held at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery on Friday, July 1, 2016 at 3 pm. Typical of Aurora, she wanted no funeral service but a party to celebrate her life! If you are able, please come to Kaneohe and wish Aurora safe flight to her new home in heaven.
