Congratulations to Erik Wong, who received his Federal Recognition to colonel on May 22, 2015. Erik is currently assigned militarily to the 154th Medical Group, and works at Headquarters, Hawai‘i Air National Guard as operations training officer, a state position.
A well deserved promotion for Erik. His promotion ceremony will probably be during the July UTA weekend.

State Tax Deduction
The 2015 deduction for National Guard pay when filing State of Hawaii tax returns next year will be $6,198.00. This tax deduction applies to Guard members still serving. It is quite a bit larger than the $1750.00 total we had for many years.
With the leadership of then State Representative K. Mark Takai and others, the state legislature increased the amount. In fact, the annual amount is calculated on the annual earnings of an E-5 with eight years’ service, based on 48 training periods and 15 days of active duty.
Along with the vehicle weight tax exemption, Hawaii Guard members have increased their state benefit package overs the last few years.
SMSgt Palbo retirement party
