The veterans’ organizations of the World War II soldiers of the 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team, Military Intelligence Service, and 1399th Engineering Construction Battalion request the honor of your presence at our 2026 Joint Memorial Service (JMS), commemorating the members of these units who died during World War II and those who have since passed away.

This year, the 100th Infantry Battalion Veterans (Club 100) will be the organizer. This year, the 100th Infantry Battalion Veterans (Club 100) will be the organizer. On September 29, 1943, Sgt. Shigeo “Joe” Takata was the first soldier of the four units to be killed by enemy fire on European soil. Composed mostly of Americans of Japanese ancestry (AJA), the 100th, 442nd, MIS, and 1399th would endure the loss of many lives as they overcame tremendous obstacles on and off the battlefield, proved unquestionable loyalty to their country, and achieved civil rights changes that have had an enormous positive impact on society.
We are honored that Hawaiʻi-born Major General Jason Kamiya, U.S. Army (Ret.), a 100th Infantry Battalion descendant, will fly in from San Antonio, Texas, to deliver the keynote address at this event. I’ve had the good fortune to hear General Kamiya’s speech at the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the “I Am an American” traveling exhibit in San Francisco. I was inspired to hear his observations of why and how we can keep the legacy of our AJA units alive and relevant. We also plan to have youth speakers that received high marks in the past. We hope you will join us at this year’s Joint Memorial Service to honor the trailblazers of the 100th Infantry Battalion, the 442nd RCT, the MIS and the 1399th for their courage and sacrifice to make life better for us and future generations.

With the agreement of the 442nd and MIS veterans’ organizations, we decided to change the format of the floral offerings for this years’ service. Instead of individual wreaths submitted by each organization, we invite you to make a floral offering to our two shared flower arrangements. We will provide each organization’s representative with a flower to place on one of the shared arrangements when called upon. A placard with the name of your organization will be walked down the aisle by a cadet as your representative holds the flower to place. The placard will be placed on a display listing all of the participating organizations. The 100th, 442nd, and MIS Veterans Clubs feel this is a prudent change in light of the high cost of wreaths, and the funding issues non-profits are facing.
Please RSVP by Monday, August 17 to the 100th Infantry Battalion Veterans organization at [email protected] or by phone at (808) 946-0272 if you or a representative of your organization will be attending and presenting a flower during the memorial service. Organizations that RSVP by the deadline will be recognized by name in the memorial service program.
When responding, please provide the name of the individual who will present the flower on behalf of your organization, as well as the names of any additional representatives who will be attending, so that seats can be set aside in the Reserved Section. If we do not receive your RSVP by August 17, your reserved seats will be released, but you are still welcome to attend and find seating in the General Section. If you require accessible parking, please let us know when you RSVP. Although we cannot guarantee a parking pass due to limited availability, we will do our best to accommodate your request.
