The State of Hawaii Department of Defense Fiscal Year 2024 Annual Report highlights the significant contributions of various divisions, particularly in response to the state’s largest wildfire. Key points include:

  • Over 1,000 Hawai‘i National Guard members and HI-EMA were activated to assist Maui County with wildfire response and recovery efforts, including evacuations, shelters, and debris removal.
  • The Office of Veterans’ Services (OVS) organized a virtual Veterans Day concert, Memorial Day Ceremony, and secured funding for cemetery improvements in Maui and Kaua‘i.
  • Civilian Military Programs had a successful year, including Hawai‘i Youth Challenge Academies supporting the Maui Wildfires and the Hawai‘i STARBASE Academy working with over 600 students.
  • The Hawai‘i National Guard’s Joint Staff supported efforts on Maui and local communities, including 27 engagements with the Philippines and 23 with Indonesia through the State Partnership Program.
