HIANG 60: Planning continues on the three events.

  • The dinner will be at the Sheraton Waikiki on Saturday, November 18, 2006.
  • The golf tournament is now on Monday, November 20, 2006, at the Mamala Bay course on Hickam. Col (Ret) Jim Townsend is the event Chair. A flyer will be out soon.
  • The open house will be at the HIANG fighter compound on Sunday, December 3, 2006. Yes, there is a gap between the two earlier events. The open house requires lots of hard work and we only get that kind of manpower on UTA weekends.

Retiree Update

Many HIANG retirees asked if I could do a column like I did for the 201st and the Support Group. I guess people what to know about what other retirees are doing. Unfortunately, the only times retirees meet are on the golf course and at funerals. So, let me give this a shot.

  • If you are wonder about Col Jim Townsend (HQ 201 Combat Communications Group) – he works at HQ HIANG as a state employee covering operational issues. He does golf tournaments on the side.
  • If you were watched the local television news coverage of the Kauai floods, you probably saw HIANG retiree Lt Col Edwin E. Chung-Hoon (HQ 154th Group). Yes, Eddie still works for State Civil Defense. Last time I talked to him, he mentioned that he still surfs.
  • Ran into MSgt Milford Chang (154th Operations Support Flight) in the commissary recently. Millie works for the State Department of Transportation, Airports Division at Honolulu Airport. Another HIANG retiree working with the DOT at Honolulu Airport is Lt Col Roy Sakata (I never figured out what squadron Roy belonged to). Another HIANG retiree with the DOT is SMSgt Bobbie Ramos (154th Operations Support Flight) who works at the Kalaeloa Airport.
  • Got an e-mail over the holidays from HIANG retiree MSgt Jun J. Arconado, who was the recruiter at the 292 Combat Communications Squadron on Maui. He lives in Kirkland, Washington and is starting a franchise type operation. Know he’ll be successful at whatever he does!
  • Had the opportunity to talk to HIANG retiree MSgt Glenn Choi (154th CAMS) recently. He just retired from the State after many years working in the unemployment claims office. Sounded like he had less stress – even over the phone. His father, CMSgt Robert D. W. Choi, is recovering from some medical problems. But Glenn mentioned Bobbie had already been out on the golf course.
  • Lt Col Kyle E. Breedlove (154th Communications Flight) is back living in Indiana. After he retired from the HIANG, he worked for the Navy and then a private contractor. He finally retired and had to move back to Indiana (and snow).
  • Former HIANG member Col Russell Mun (297th Air Traffic Control Squadron) now works for the Camber Corporation. Camber is the contractor that is implementing the new Department of Defense SORTS reporting system. Working with Russ is Dean Tano, who started his military career in the HIANG (154th Clinic) before going on to serve and retire from the Air Force.

Still working to add to my retiree listing. Please send me the e-mail address of any retiree you know. Thanks.
