The family of the late Mark Takai on Tuesday announced two ceremonies for the congressman to honor “the beloved servant leader.”

On August 18, he will lie in state at the Hawaii State Capitol Rotunda:

  • 10:00 a.m. — remembrance ceremony
  • 11:30 a.m. — public viewing begins
  • 7:00 p.m. — public viewing concludes

The following day, on August 19, memorial services are to be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu at Koolau, 45-550 Kionaole Road in Kaneohe:

  • 9:00 a.m. — visitation
  • 11:00 a.m. — service
  • 12:00 p.m. — visitation continues/fellowship with guests

“In keeping with the late congressman’s tradition of celebrating Aloha Friday, the family requests participants to dress in aloha attire,” says a press release.

Overflow parking at Hawaii Pacific University’s Hawaii Loa Campus will be provided for the August 19 service, as well as shuttle service.

Takai, who represented the state’s 1st Congressional District, died July 20 of cancer. He was 49.
