Child and Youth

Child & Youth Program (CYP) develops, implements, and provides services to families with school aged children through all phases of deployment. CYP works with various agencies on all islands to provide community resources and youth services that help in the physical, mental, and educational development of Guard children across the state of Hawaii. Various activities are scheduled on Oahu at little or no cost to attend. Such activities include overnight camps, day camps, STEAM activities, leadership training camps and academic exploration days held all year round.

Please contact Michelle K.T. Nieves at (808) 672-1439 or by email at [email protected] to be added to the parent distribution email list or to request resources.

Childcare

Childcare providers are always needed, and at times parents are often left wondering “Who do I trust to watch my child during a drill weekend, annual training, or maybe even just a night out to relax?”. Child and Youth Services has researched the needs and compiled reliable resources to assist with your individual childcare needs.

AGR Status/IDT Status

The provision of 24/7 care supports families’ child care needs 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and is more than simply the provision of child care after hours. Nontraditional care primarily serves military personnel who work nontraditional hours so they can balance the competing demands of family life and military readiness. Installations are required to offer an extended care program to meet the needs of military members working nontraditional hours. The extended care program may be offered through a 24/7 CDH subsidy program or in a dedicated 24/7 Center.

Kids Cove 24/7 combines the strengths of both in-home care and traditional center-based care. Facilities are home-like and at the same time provide more than one professional to supervise children and more opportunities for child socialization in large groups similar to center-based care. These homes are available in fleet-concentrated areas and are DoD certified.
