JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii \u2014<\/strong> Senior Airman Ryan Sasaki, a cryptologic analyst and reporter with the 201st Intelligence Squadron, was recently recognized as one of Hawaii Air National Guard\u2019s 2026 Outstanding Airman of the 1st Quarter Award recipients for developing a set of task management tools using the computer software Python to automate daily intelligence workflows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sasaki\u2019s custom tools streamline the process of taking data from collection through processing and analysis. “Most of the tools take a CSV (comma-separated values) full of data that contains a bunch of information from a table, like a spreadsheet and it will reformat it in a way that’s better for our purposes,” Sasaki said. “And it does so at the click of a button.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By instantly converting complex datasets and CSV files, his tools eliminated tedious manual data entry and saved approximately 800 hours annually on routine operational tasks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Developing each tool required about a week of focused effort. It began with writing instructions in a text editor and loading necessary code libraries, which were then tested directly through the terminal, a computer interface system where commands are typed in. On-screen feedback made it easy to tweak and refine the code in real time until it functioned reliably.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
