{"id":2787,"date":"2013-07-28T10:00:42","date_gmt":"2013-07-28T20:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/retireenews.wordpress.com\/?p=2787"},"modified":"2024-11-06T20:53:26","modified_gmt":"2024-11-06T20:53:26","slug":"checking-out-old-photos-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dod.hawaii.gov\/retireenews\/2013\/07\/28\/checking-out-old-photos-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Checking Out Old Photos"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-full wp-image-2746\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dod.hawaii.gov\/retireenews\/files\/2013\/07\/hiang-ohana1-e1496819017379.jpg\" alt=\"HIANG Ohana\" class=\"wp-image-2746\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Hawai\u2018i Air National Guard featured a Hawaiian musical group called the <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>HANG Ohana<\/strong><\/span>.&nbsp; The musicians and dancers evolved over the years, but they entertained at organization events to everyone\u2019s enjoyment. &nbsp;&nbsp;This photo shows an after work practice on the hanger floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><b>Yvette Miraflor<\/b><\/span> stepped in to help with the names.&nbsp; Her feedback was, <em>\u201cThe two musicians I recognize are (from the left) <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><b>Ron Hoopai<\/b> <\/span>(ex engine man and now a Hawaiian Air pilot), the one in the middle is <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><b>Bill Akiona<\/b><\/span> and I cannot make out the other one because his face is half hidden.&nbsp; <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><b>Louise Lum<\/b><\/span> and <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><b>Bernice Pharr<\/b><\/span> are the dancers.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yvette and her husband <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><b>Ronnie<\/b> <\/span>(another HIANG retiree) relocated to Gardnerville, Nevada many years ago.&nbsp; They return to Hawai\u2018i to visit family and friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Mahalo to\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000080;\"><b>Ted Merrill<\/b><\/span>.<b>\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0His last assignment with the Hawai\u2018i Air National Guard was the 154<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Wing\u2019s historian.\u00a0He cataloged a lot of HIANG historical material and shared the DVD.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:10px\"><em>The appearance of external hyperlinks did not constitute endorsement by Retiree News, this included the linked websites, information, products, or services contained therein.
