Hawaii’s Public Libraries will host Cyber Security Awareness Programs

HONOLULU — The Hawaii State Public Library System, in partnership with the Hawaii Department of Defense Office of Homeland Security and the International Security Consortium (ISC)2 Hawaii Chapter, will be offering “Safe and Secure: Protect Yourself on the Internet” cyber safety awareness programs at various public libraries throughout the month of October.

Cyber security professionals will discuss malware protection, using strong passwords, wifi usage, online shopping and banking, scams, safe email habits, phishing, data backup, and social media. These free one-hour programs will include a question & answer session. Teens, college students and adults are encouraged to attend!
“Having the knowledge and skills to protect our personal information and identities in the virtual world is vital in the 21st Century. The Hawaii State Public Library System is happy to be a part of this important learning opportunity,” said State Librarian Stacey Aldrich.

• October 13, 11:30 a.m. – Pearl City Public Library
• October 16, 3:30 p.m. – Aina Haina Public Library
• October 16, 5:30 p.m. – Waipahu Public Library
• October 19, 12 p.m. – Hawaii State Library
• October 21, 5:30 p.m. – Mililani Public Library
• October 21, 6 p.m. – Kalihi-Palama Public Library
• October 22, 10:30 a.m. – Aiea Public Library
• October 23, 6:30 p.m. – Waianae Public Library

Hawaii Island
• October 12, 2 p.m. – Hilo Public Library

Island of Kauai
• October 16, 2 p.m. – Hanapepe Public Library
• October 16, 5 p.m. – Waimea Public Library

Islands of Maui & Molokai
• October 19, 2 p.m. – Kahului Public Library
• October 24, 3 p.m. – Molokai Public Library
