{"id":6408,"date":"2022-04-18T13:52:59","date_gmt":"2022-04-18T23:52:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dod.hawaii.gov\/hiema\/?p=6408"},"modified":"2026-05-01T13:50:03","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T23:50:03","slug":"news-release-small-businesses-across-most-of-hawai%ca%bbi-encouraged-to-apply-for-loans-for-economic-injury-from-drought-deadline-approaching-for-o%ca%bbahu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dod.hawaii.gov\/hiema\/news-release-small-businesses-across-most-of-hawai%ca%bbi-encouraged-to-apply-for-loans-for-economic-injury-from-drought-deadline-approaching-for-o%ca%bbahu\/","title":{"rendered":"NEWS RELEASE: Small Businesses Across Most Of Hawai\u02bbi Encouraged To Apply For Loans For Economic Injury From Drought; Deadline Approaching For O\u02bbahu"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Monday, April 18, 2022<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Release No. 2022-021<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>HONOLULU<\/strong> \u2014 The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is offering assistance to small, nonfarm businesses in Hawai\u02bbi through low-interest federal disaster loans to offset economic losses caused by ongoing drought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The deadline is rapidly approaching for O\u02bbahu applicants seeking relief from economic harm caused by the drought that began last autumn, and new eligibility has been declared for economic injury to businesses in the counties of Hawai\u02bbi, Maui, and Kalawao.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SBA loans are available to nonfarm businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture, and most private nonprofit organizations in the City and County of Honolulu and in Hawai\u02bbi, Kalawao, and Maui counties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Loans of up to $2 million are available to help meet working capital needs caused by the disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Information for City and County of Honolulu applicants<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Thomas Vilsack declared the disaster Sept. 10, 2021 for drought beginning July 20, 2021.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Applications for the low-interest loans are due by May 10, 2022.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The interest rate is 2.88 percent for businesses and 2 percent for private nonprofit organizations, with terms up to 30 years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Loan amounts and terms are set by the SBA and are based on each applicant&#8217;s financial condition.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>See the <a href=\"https:\/\/disasterloanassistance.sba.gov\/ela\/sfc\/servlet.shepherd\/version\/download\/068t000000aPKCUAA4\">SBA news release here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Information for Hawai\u02bbi, Kalawao, and Maui county applicants<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Vilsack declared the disaster April 8, 2022 for drought that began Feb. 8, 2022.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The deadline to apply is Dec. 8, 2022.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interest rates are 2.94 percent for businesses and 1.875 percent for private nonprofit organizations, with terms up to 30 years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Loan amounts and terms are set by the SBA and are based on each applicant&#8217;s financial condition.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>See the <a href=\"https:\/\/disasterloanassistance.sba.gov\/ela\/sfc\/servlet.shepherd\/version\/download\/068t000000bA10uAAC\">SBA news release here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Applicants may apply online, receive additional disaster assistance information and download <a href=\"https:\/\/disasterloanassistance.sba.gov\/ela\/s\/\">applications here<\/a>.
